Problems Solved by the Invention

Parents may have to take their young child into retail and grocery stores. The child often sits in the upper section of the cart. The metal frame and hard seat can be incredibly uncomfortable, applying pressure to the thighs and rear end. The child may squirm, turn in the seat, and even stand up, risking falling and serious injury.

Detailed Description

ComfortKart is a modified seat cushion designed to accommodate the upper seating area in a shopping cart. The cushion facilitates safety and comfort when a young child is sitting in the shopping cart. The cushion is comprised of a lightweight, foldable material and can be inserted into the shopping cart seat area with ease.

The seat, leg supports, and backrest offer cushioned comfort. The first set of locking straps secure around waist of child for additional safety, and when folded serve as a carrying handle either around forearm or shoulder. The second set of straps secure backrest to the cart, and when folded, lock the two halves together.

Parents can unfold the system and insert it into the shopping cart seat for a child to sit on. There can be a detachable neck rest to support the child’s head if he/she falls asleep while their parent is shopping. When not in use, the neck rest can be placed over the backside of the seat.

Each cushion can be constructed using HDPE plastic, PVC foam, and other suitable materials. The overall width is intended to be no larger than 12.5”, and the unfolded length will be no larger than 26.5” to accommodate shopping cart seats. The seat below the leg supports measures approximately 14.75”, and the backrest measures no more than 10.5” in height. Exact size, measurement, construction, and design specifications may vary upon further development and manufacturing.
