What is a physical prototype / model?

A physical prototype is an almost exact replica of your invention made from a state-of-the-art hard powder technology. The quality of the physical model is so good that many people have a hard time understanding that the image they are looking at is actually a physical prototype and not the real product.

The size of the physical prototypes can be made up to 8" by 10" by 8".

How is the physical prototype created?

Step 1

The first step in creating your physical prototype is to create a computer animated design (CAD file) of your invention with product dimensions and specifications. The CAD file is a sophisticated software program used to create an exact model of your invention in a 3D virtual environment. Once complete, the CAD file contains all of your invention engineering and production information used to produce a physical prototype. In addition, the CAD file will also provide information that can be used for manufacturing purposes.

Step 2

We utilize a state-of-the-art powder-binder technology invented at and patented by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create a physical prototype directly from the digital data contained in the CAD file. The CAD data is downloaded into a prototype-printing machine, which uses the data to create and exact model of your invention, which is made from a specialized hard powder.

What are the benefits and costs?

The computer-aided design (CAD) and physical prototype will offer you the following benefits:

The CAD process will enable you to fully develop your invention and work out the design specifications prior to moving forward with developing a physical prototype or filing for patent protection. The upfront effort can save you time and money on reworking your invention later in the process

The CAD file provides important information to a prospective buyer, which can help them in making a decision on licensing or buying your invention as well as saving them valuable time in the evaluation and review process of your invention

The CAD file and physical model provides for a higher level of credibility in your design and overall seriousness of your invention

The cost is $5,999. The package includes a 3D virtual CAD model, 1 physical prototype created and shipped to you, 1 invention portfolio website with 5 digital images of your physical prototype and/or virtual CAD file, plus a listing on our online tradeshow (iShowOnline).
